BIRD's in the 1860-1880 period

Probably a long shot but I am trying to put together my family tree and know from conversations I had with my Dad that his Dad had some connection to Ceylon tea plantations. Other than that I know very little other than I have found references on this site to two possible relatives :

a) LIONAEL CHARLES BIRD - Assistant Wattagodda on Dimbulla tea plantation in Almanac 1870 and

b) CHARLES HY(hopefully Hyde) BIRD listed as "Sclr" 1868 (? Scholar)

If anyone can shed any light on these two individuals or can tell me what an "Assistant Wattagodda" is or does I would be very grateful.

Good Site by the way !
