Hi Hugh,

Thanks for the information, it did give me more background. There is a mystery in the family about what happened to my Great Grandparents in Sri Lanka. My Grandmother did not say much about it, so everything is a bit vague. The information I have uncovered is that R.J. Wylie died there at some time between 1877 and 1881. Originally I believed that His wife also died in that same time period. But she turned up back in Scotland listed as a widow in the 1881 Census, but then disappears again, leaving the children there. I am thinking that she returned to Sri Lanka, perhaps to wrap up the estate and died there. In any case, the records I have access to are tied to three centres, Colombo, Kandy and Matale. I have assumed that Haputale District falls under Kandy. Could you tell me if I am correct in that assumption? Thank you again for you help, it is much appreciated. Craig
