Giles T. Spurr is my Great-Great-Great Grandfather. He and his father and uncles came from Sparta, TN in 1834, stopped for a short time that year in Bedford, IN before moving on north to Parke County, Indiana. There Giles' eldest Uncle, Isaac, bought land. When Isaac and his brothers (Lewis and Hyatt) passed away, the land was left to Giles.
Giles and his wife Malinda had a cherry orchard, and people came from miles around to pick and pay for cherries.
He also raised horses and sold them. Giles was dark-skinned, had black hair, and was not a tall man. He could have a temper with the men, but was gracious with the women in the family.
Their sons include, but may not be limited to: Charles Edward; Burl or Beryl (?); Nero, who was darker than his father, apparently; and perhaps one or two other brothers, whose names I have forgotten. I hope this information is of help to you. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.
