Benjamin Spurlock
Has anyone found any additional records that give a clue as to who Benjamin Spurlock in Orangeburg, SC was?
I am interested in his association with William Thompson, the Indian trader, and his brother Moses Thompson.
My 4th great grandfather, James Keith, also known as Crane Eater, was the son of Polly Thompson who was Cherokee. This James Keith was indentured by Allen Spurlock 20 January 1802, in Oglethorpe County, Ga. I believe Allen was the brother of James Spurlock who died in Clarke County, GA in 1806. An advertisement in an 1806 Clarke County, GA newspaper was placed by Allen Spurlock offering a reward for the return of my grandfather, James Keith, who had run away.
James Spurlock, James Jones (provided surety bond for indenture), and Frances Spurlock (wife of Allen) were all listed together as members of the in Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Oglethorpe County, Ga in 1802, 10 days after the indenture.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
