Ken,
There is no question that the "Richard" Spurlock and the "Francis" Spurlock in the service records are one and the same person.

In my previous post "References and Remarks: (Father) Francis Spurlock, Woodbury Cannon Co. Tenn” – that parenthesis (father) is in the record exactly that way, it isn’t my addition. So, the U.S. Army General Hospital in Nashville is saying that “Richard Spurlock” aka “Francis Spurlock” has a father “Francis Spurlock” in Woodbury Cannon County.

The simplest explanation is that the hospital screwed up. I know it is hard to believe that the U.S. Army could make a mistake like this, but it has been known to happen ;)
