Hey Steven, apparently you and I are 6th cousins to one another.
Relatively little information about Zachariah is in a report by a professional genealogist (whose name I don’t have close at hand.)In total the report mentions a considerable paper trail but little about Zachariah.Part of what the report told about Zachariah was that he married about 1768 in Fairfax Co., VA and that he and all his siblings were born between 1730 and 1752.He and his brothers John and William moved to NC between 1770 and the end of the Revolutionary War.I claim as my Gggg-grandfather his brother Jeremiah III who remained in VA.The report says Zachariah’s family settled in Surry Co., NC (which is near Ashe Co.)
If Zachariah died in 1837 (which I have no reason to doubt) and if he passed the century mark after having preached for 80 years, then the 1747 birth date may have been a typo for what should have been 1737 and he would have started preaching at the age of about 20.
Zachariah was a son of Jeremiah Spurling I.Rootsweb database laythamtree shows Richard Greene Spurling was a g-grandson of this Jeremiah Spurling so Richard would also be a g-nephew of Zachariah.
