Hi Paula,
James Berry Spurlin was the father of William Rufus 1833-1899, Jane 1838, George Washington 1843-1914, Sarah A.E. 1844-1923, James Franklin 1846-1918. He was married twice, to Amanda? Marler and to Amelia Milly Hamilton, Marler dying before he left Tennessee, so I am not sure which kids are Marler and which are Hamilton's. Anyway, Berry got killed is the story I keep seeing when he pursued horse thieves from Hot Springs TX to somewhere in TX not sure where, and I have not seen if he was buried in TX where they hit him in the head with a rock or if he made it back to AR before dying and is buried in the Spurlin Cemetery in Hot Springs. But if he is there, the grave has become unmarked, there are unmarked graves there now, but James Franklin's grave is there. George W. is my husband Craig's 2nd GreatGrandfather. Their family stayed in Clark County AR next to Garland CO(Hot Springs) until my husband's father left home for WWII and married and the grandfather died of heart attack. We live in Sherman, TX and my husband has 2 other brothers, of which the middle one shares the middle name that seemed favored with the Spurlin family, FRANKLIN. Their Grandfather Jessie also was named Franklin middle name. My husband's family could never tell me any family history. Everything that I have gotten, I have gotten off of ancestry.com or web searches. I would really like to know where James Berry was killed in Texas and where he was buried, and who were the horse thieves he was after, if you get any info on that in particular. Thanks. Melody Spurlin
