I have lots of questions. Who was Major Atwood? What war if any did he serve? I can't find him in the DAR Patriot index. Have you seen this painting, is he wearing a uniform? I only have one Atwood, a Private in Pa. wife's name unknown. The rest are from New England. Another question. According to Magistrate Spears records, both Joseph and Elizabeth were from Elizabethtown. I don't know exactly where Robert lived of the 1848 estate handled by Joseph SproUt. Was this Robert Sr. or Jr. SproUt? When did Robert Sr. die? Because of the Elizabethtown comment, I have been trying to connect to the SproUts in York, across the Susquehanna. I can't connect to anyone in Lancaster or York, although Elizabeth Herr SproUt apparently spent the rest of her life in Mt. Joy. I think that a widow would go to where her family lived, where she would have moral and financial support, but there is no record of that. I haven't followed up on the Herr family to find an answer to that question. As I said, I have lots of questions, but can't document anything. I have learned the hard way not to trust family legends, but to keep digging until I can locate documents to support or disprove all stories. Thanks for your reply.
