Marilyn,

Thanks for the great info on Hugh Sprott's Irish connections. Believe you have found the right family. Hugh & his brother show up in early NC/SC 1790 records - Hugh as early as 1792 NC with future father-in-law James Spratt. Brother Joseph settled in Sumter Dist., now Clarendon Co, SC. Both brothers left wills confirming relationship: Hugh "my brother Joseph of SC who adopted my son Joseph". Joseph "my brother Hugh of NC, nephew Joseph son of my brother Hugh.....etc." Joseph never married and willed most of lands/estate to nephew Joseph. BUT Joseph also willed large amt.of $ "to brothers & sister, Henry, Moses and Sarah Sprott of Parish Dromere County, Ireland". Joseph d.July 30, 1847.

I believe Catherine Sprott (Hugh's wife) parents were the James & Catherine Sprott buried at Steele Creek Presby.Church cemetery. James tombstone reads d.Feb 4, 1802 aged 73yrs.(b.1729). Catherine's d.Oct 3, 1826 aged 84 yrs. (b.1742). I also think James could be the James "Sprat" who witnessed "old" Thomas Spratt's will in 1757. Have abstracts of will/Thomas: "Daus: Mary, and Ann Barnett and Jean Neel, Susannah Polk, Martha Sprat; sons, Thomas, John Clark, and Thos.Polk......" Lots of historical data on old Thomas Spratt.

I have most of James/Catherine's children, spouses, etc.

Hope to correpond more & compare notes! Thanks,
Dianne Reynolds <Reyngen@aol.com>
