For some reason, I had Wavel incorrectly in my database as "Mavel" Payne. Was Payne the surname of a first husband?

Clarence Elmer Sprinkle was the son of Oliver Jennings Sprinkle & Isabel Cole. They lived in Christian Co.

According to a letter his sister, Josephine Sprinkle Hague, wrote to another Sprinkle researcher, Clarence was a veteran of WWI and was awarded "Metal of Bravery Croix de Guerre." She also wrote that he was an Illinois State Representative and an Illinois State Senator.

According to Mrs. Hague's letter, Clarence was also married to Von Devore. Judging from the date you wrote for Clarence's marriage to Wavel, I'd guess "Von" was his first wife. Also according to Mrs. Hague, Clarence had no children.

I cannot find Clarence on the 1930 census. Can you?

I can give you some background on this Sprinkle family, if you are interested.
