Aaron Springfield son of James , stepson to Joseph Rogers, mother was Sarah Bell
I have an Aaron Springfield who is a half brother to my great grandfather Marvin Groves Rogers. My Aaron is listed in the 1880 Whitfield Co. Ga. census in the Tunnel Hill district. He is 19 years old. This makes him born about 1861. His mother is Sarah Ann Bell married first to James M. Springfield on June 7, 1854 and second to my great great grandfather, Joseph Askew Rogers on August 14, 1866. I have a picture on CD of Aaron in 1903 in Trinidad, Colorado, and another picture of an Annie Springfield also made in 1903, Trinidad, Colorado. I really don't have any way of knowing if these two were husband and wife but I would guess they were since her name is Springfield and the pictures were made same year and same place. I don't know where Aaron went when he left Whitfield County, GA around the turn of the century but evidently he was in Colorado in 1903 at least for a while. All my grandmother knew of those aunts and uncles was "they went west to Texas." My grandmothers dad was 2 when Aaron was 19 so he hardly knew anything about him. Aaron was one of 9 possibly 10 children. I am positive he had 5 half and 3 step brothers and sisters, maybe 1 whole sister. The three step siblings were, Louise Ann b. 1851, James R. or B. b. 1854 and Robert A. Rogers b. 1855. The 5 half brothers and sisters were, Egbert Manson b. 1868, Joseph N. b. 1870, Sallie N. b. 1874, John Dee Dee b. 1875 and Marvin Groves Rogers b. 1878. Aaron's real father was James M. Springfield. Here is what I found on the 1860 census Whitfield County, GA, Tunnel Hill district. James is head of household, 32 years old, occupation is grocery, and he was born in Tennessee. Sarah Ann (my great great grandmother) is his wife 27 yrs old. Other people listed in the household are Martha 1 year old, born in Georgia, Harriett 14, born in Georgia, and Hugh, 30 born in Tennessee. Hugh is also in the grocery business. Hugh did not have real estate or personal estate listed. Martha doesn't appear in the census after Aaron's mother married Joseph Rogers so she may have died young or maybe she was Hugh's child. Martha would be the possible 10th and whole sister to Aaron. None of the relationships are listed so I'm not real sure if baby Martha is a sister to Aaron or not. Aaron was not listed in 1860 because he was born a year later. Aaron's mother, Sarah Ann Bell was born on April 3, 1833, and died on June 9, 1892. I'm not for sure where she died because I can't find her grave but I am told by a cousin (from the Bell side) that it was in Whitfield Co., GA. I have a picture of Sarah and one of her mother too. Sarah's mother, Betsy Bell was a Fortune before she married Hartwell Bell. It's possible there is a picture of Aaron's father because several have no name. Can anyone add to the info I gave or if you have pictures of these family members could we compare and maybe I could identify some of the ones I have that have no name on them? I thought it might be possible that someone has a bible or some record of Joseph Rogers parents, that Aaron may have written down. I would love to hear from someone!
Thanks, LaDonna Rider
