I believe you should question your information about the marriages of John Spriggs to both Theodocia McKinney and Polly Ann Clingan. The marriage dates alone suggest a problem. I believe what has happened is that records of two different men have been accidentally merged.
Although both John Spriggs are descendants of Thomas Spriggs, Polly Ann Clingan's husband John was the son of Ezekiel Spriggs of Bradley Co., TN, not your ancestor John who married Theodocia McKinney.
