St. Charles (Illinois) Chronicle, July 16, 1969 News of our Servicemen Major Robert Spriet Awarded Air DFS in Vietnam Action U.S. Air Force Major Robert J. Spriet, son of Mrs. Alfred A. Spriet, Bartlett, has been decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross for air action in Vietnam. Flying as a forward air controller, Major Spriet supported a major airborne assault by a large contingent of allied ground forces. He controlled all airspace involved during landing zone preparation by 12 sorties of close air support aircraft and combat air patrol. His leadership and knowledge of air operations were primarily responsible for the successful completion of the mission. Major Spriet was presented the medal at Eglin AFB in Florida, where he is now a flight training instructor with the 4410th Combat Crew Training Wing, a unit of the Tactical Air Command. Commissioned through the aviation cadet program in 1944, he holds a command pilot rating and served during World War II. Notify Administrator about this message?
