I may have some information for you.My GGG-Grandfather, Samuel Spratt, had a brother named William. In the North Carolina Rutherford County 1812-1814 Muster Rolls, he is listed in the First Reg. MrTownship. The year was 1814.During the War of 1812, he served as a private in Capt. Oliver's Co. of the North Carolina Mil.On July 26, 1819, he married Mary Sterling in Rutherford County.
William and Mary left Rutherford County soon after their marriage and moved to Bond County, Illinois. He lived next to Hugh Watson and John Sterling who were also from NC.William is in Bond County, Illinois, on the 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1850 Bond County censuses. In 1850 his family is listed as:
William Spratt55NC
Mary53NC
Elizabeth28ILL
Mary23ILL
John21ILL
Frances19ILL
Isabel16ILL
Samuel14ILL
Sarah9ILL
William7ILL
Nancy E.8ILL
Cynthia4ILL
Margaret4/12ILL
With Mary being 53 years old and Nancy listed under William, the assumption was made that the last three of these children were grandchildren and not daughters, but a different last name was not recorded for them.
