Hi Jane:
Nice to hear from you. I still live in the same house with the same phone number, etc.

There has never been any question that William Butler Splawn, born in the early 1850's and the son of William Splawn and Jane Waldrop, had the middle name Butler. Nobody knows where it came from. [It does not seem to be from the Waldrops, who have been researched, although the Jane's seem to be confused; nor has anyone been able to attach it to the Splawn's.]

The question is when it is attached to William Splawn, b. 1800 and I have never found a single document relating to that William with "Butler" on it.

I've been researching other families; as the Splawn's seem to have hit a dead-end with William - I guess we can guess the lineage back, but the documents haven't surfaced to prove it.
