As a result of posting made by Susan on another Board, I found this thread as well.I gave her some information there that you also might want to check into.Info about the Spitzers in Volhynia (and probably some of the other surnames you mention) is to be found in the databases of the Society for German Genealogy in Eastern Europe which serves Germans from Volhynia and Russia Poland.The website is http://www.sggee.orghttp://www.sggee.org .
At least one of our members, Bill Remus, has been researching this line.The data on your direct line goes back to c.1763.The US migration path of your ancestors is a little unusual but I can say that Berrien County, MI is probably THE hotbed of German Volhynian settlement in the States - much like the Dakotas are for the Black Sea Germans.There were also lots of Volhynian Germans in southern Manitoba.
I would encourage you to join.You will benefit not only from the data but also from the historical info to be gleaned from our Journals, etc.
