Hello Jack, Glad to hear from you regarding your Spilman-Withers line. I am a descendant of Samuel Hewlett and 2d wife Eleanor McDaniel of Hopkins Co. KY. Samuel married a 3d time in 1828 in Nashville, Tn and in 1839 moved to then Barry Co. Missouri which was later changed in 1845 to Lawrence County, Missouri! He had 5 children by his 2d wife and 5 more by Abigail Smith Hewlett. 12 Pioneer families settled in SW Lawrence County that came from Allen, Floyd, Hopkins, Warren counties in Kentucky to have 'bigger and better homesteads' in Missouri! Of these surnames: Boucher, Bright/Brite, Cagle, Hewlett, Mann, Moody, Morris, Pruitt, Schooling, Spilman, Woods and Wormington, there is a renewal of family ties and meeting of new cousins and their descendants held each September in Monette. This is known as the 12 Pioneer Family Reunion of SW Lawrence County and has over 300 known descendants to any one or as many as 2-5 of the families that settled there and often intermarried. Annually we count between 110-135 people that attend from all across the US continent. I descend from Hewlett-Spilman and there is a Hewlett sibling who married a Andrew J (Weathers) Withers in 1842 in Barry County. I have a Hewlett booklet and John Jasper Spilman's 1909 Family HIstory for Spilman. His direct ancestor was John Spilman who married Mary Boucher in Allen Co. Kentucky about 1814 and moved to Lawrence County, MO. They are buried in the Boucher Cemetery in Mt Pleasant Township of Lawrence County, Mo. I just acquired marriage records booklets for Lawrence County Mo dating from 1871-1924 (12 Volumes 1839-1924) from my last Reunion trip. We have a 12 Pioneer family tree website listing all 12 familiy surnames and current known descendants. Each line is a major chapter comprising the total 12. Contact me at for more Spilman information and I can provide you with other related Spilman descendants. I don't have dates for the first 4 Hewlett-Withers Children born to Andrew and Nancy Jane Hewlett Withers. I do have photos of their burials in Lawrence County, Mo. Thank you for your interest in the Spilman-Withers lines, Jean Gaw Buckley President, 2003-2004 12 Pioneer Family Reunion 3d Sunday, September 2004 Notify Administrator about this message?
