Wilhelm & Wilhelmine Spilner, 1885

Although my line spelled the name with only one "l," I believe there may be a connection somewhere. Mine are believed to have come from Kassel, Germany (or somewhere in that area) and arrived in NYC on the Nekar in 1885 and settled in Newark, NJ. There were 7 children: Ida, Alexander, August, Herman, Richard, Edwin, Anna.

Wilhelm died in 1887 and Wilhelmine disappears from the records, either died, remarried or moved away. The younger children were living with older siblings by the 1900 census, so we think she had died by then.

I'd love to hear from anyone researching either version of the name.
