Both the 1860 and 1870 list her name as Candice.
The 1880 US Census shows Candice living with her oldest son Thomas Spiller s. Interestingly, it says her arm is broken.
The 1900 US Census shows the mother of William Harrison Spillers, "illegib le" Kansas, living in his household in Clark Township, Pope, Arkansas.

August 31, 1911 Saturday's Daily - "Grandma" Spillers died at her ho
London yesterday morning and her remains were brought to this city and tak en
to the home of Mrs. Spillers. The burial was in Shiloh Cemetery this morn ing
at 11 o'clock, services being conducted by Rev. R. F. Kirby. Mrs. Spille rs
was claimed to have been the oldest woman in the county, being 98 yea rs of
age at the time of her death, the greater part of her life being spe
this county. She leaves four sons, G. P. and J. S. Spillers of Russellvil le,
H.C. Spillers of Oak Cliff and Ben Spillers of Langston, Texas, three of w hom
were present at the time of her death.
BAKERS CREEK NEWS - "Grandma" Spillers, age 98 years, 10 months, and 20 da ys, died August 25, 1911, after five weeks illness.

James M. Spillers was the son of D.K. Spillers, who was born in England a nd came to America in the late 1700's. They first settled in Casco Pond n ear Portland, Maine, and later the family migrated through Georgia into Te nnessee where James was born in 1813 in Gibson County. Mr. Spillers w as a tailor and merchant by trade.
In 1840, he was married to Cordaic Vick, a Cherokee Indian. They were t he parents of six sons. In 1848, the family consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Sp illers, twin sons, William and Thomas and another son, Henry, came to Arka nsas and settled in Pope County. They first bought land where Arkansas Te ch University is now located. There were three more sons born in Pope Cou nty: Clay, Ben, George Patrick.

The 1870 census shows James with his wife Candice, sons George Pike and Be njamin F. living in Arkansas, Pope County.
The 1880 US Census shows James Madison Spillers' wife, Candice, living wi th her oldest son, Thomas, leading the researcher to conclude that James M adison died between 1870 and 1880.
Kansas Spillers, the mother of William Harrison Spillers, is shown in t he 1900 US Census living with William and is 75 years old. She is list ed as widowed.
