On the 1840 census there was a Stephen SPEARS, as I told you in my first reply. What's interesting about this particular entry is that he is 9 lines above Henry GRAY (who is also in my ancestral line). Henry married Elizabeth Euphiazene SPEARS, b. 1839. Elizabeth was one of the daughters of Sidney Wallis SPEARS & Margaret C. SHAVER (my great-great grandparents). Both of these came to Lafayette Co. from Cabarrus Co., NC. With the birth years of Elizabeth and Stephen Allen being only 2 years apart, it is remotely possible that they are siblings. Like I said, this is a remote possiblity because my research shows that Sidney and Elizabeth SPEARS did not have a child named Elizabeth.
Hopefully these tid bits will add something to your material to give you a clue for more productive search. If you eventually do find a connection to the other SPEARS/SPIRES families in Lafayette and surrounding counties in MS or in Cabarrus or Mecklenburg counties in NC, please get back with me. I have much, much more I can tell you about this family.
Regards,
Bill Ward
