Hi Jean,
I have some names and information for you. My father was a Spencer from Clinton County; his eldest brother made extensive notes on the Spencers from that area.
Capt. James Spencer (1762-1843) and Mary McClure (her father was Capt. John McClure of Dayton, Ohio) had 14 children.
John C. Spencer was first, born 9/16/1794, Newport, Ky.
(I have names of the other 13 if you want them.)
Also in my uncle's notes are some names of John C.'s children:
Ethan A. Spencer born 6/23/1823 died 1913 (never married, Civil War Capt.)
Milton M. Spencer born 2/--/1820, m.10/16/1851, d. 1909
Lewis C. Spencer, d.3/5/1857
Eliz. Spencer
William H. Spencer married Nancy---?
James Spencer, Jr.
Franklin Spencer, Adams Twp. Clerk, Officer Civil War
My uncle's notes indicate that John C. Spencer was lost on a trip "out west" (to Santa Fe, NM) in 1835.
I know some data is missing, but I hope this helps you with your search.
BTW, Capt. James was the brother of my 3rd gr grandfather, Thomas Spencer; they were sons of William Spencer b about 1740, Rev. War veteran, d 1833. Rev.War pension records are available online if this is your line.
Some Spencers moved to Logan County, Ohio, probably around 1814.
Susan
