Virgil,
In your recent message to me, you indicated that Sarah Spencer was the daughter of Judge Samuel Spencer and his wife Sybil Tisdale Spencer.
However, in the research that Sharon Spencer conducted on which "Sybil" married Judge Samuel Spencer, it is my recollection that Sybil Tisdale Spencer and Sarah Spencer were sisters rather than mother/daughter. Thus, Joseph Spencer was Judge Samuel Spencer's brother-in-law rather than son-in-law as you stated in your recent posting
"Jerusha Huntley married Antipas Tisdale in East Haddam, CT 10 FEB 1746/7. They removed to New Bern, Craven Co., NC where Antipas was a jailer. Antipas died and his estate papers show that his daughter, Sybil Tisdale, married Judge Samuel Spencer of Anson County, NC who died in the year, 1793. Samuel's and Sybil's daughter Sarah Spencer married Joseph Spencer and they removed to Burke County, NC. There is no known relationship between Judge Samuel & Joseph other than Joseph was his son-in-law. Joseph & Sarah's oldest child was Tisdale Spencer born ca. 1791 who removed to Gilmer County, GA. Best regards, Virgil Huntley"
Your knowledge of this relationship is vastly superior to mine, but in the interest of keeping the research going on a straight path, would you please look this over, perhaps discuss it with Sharon, and then let us know what is the correct relationship.
As we have discussed by email before, I am a descendent of the marriage of Joseph Spencer and Sarah (Tisdale?) Spencer, so the distinction is pretty important to me at least.
By the way, I have a Spencer cousin on my same line who's father (or perhaps one of her brothers) might be willing to participate in a DNA typing. If either of the men would agree-- then a comparison to a descendent of Judge Samuel Spencer could be made to settle once and for all the question---IS THERE A FAMILIAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JUDGE SAMUEL SPENCER AND JOSEPH SPENCER OF BURKE CO. NC.other than "in-law".
All the best Virgil... and thank you for all the work you do on behalf of all the Spencer (also Tisdale, Huntley and no telling how many other) descendents.
