I am seeking information from any Spencer researcher who might have data on Henry W. Spencer born, according to the census records, in Kentucky, about 1845. He married Elizabeth Griffith in Walton County Florida. They had four sons, Oliver, Jason, Henry, Jr. (my grandfather) and Samuel Burgess Spencer. Our family has absolutely no information other than what we have garnered from the census as he disappeared from his home between 1900 and the enumeration of the 1910 Fed. census. The stories we have been told throughout my lifetime have him leaving his home to take care of business at the Walton County Courthouse and never returning, and he left home with a group to "pull gophers" (the turtle, not the furry little critters) and was killed in a cave-in. However, we never heard the latter story until only recently, and my granddad would have known if such a tragedy happened, I believe.

His father was supposedly born in NC; mother, SC. He was a blacksmith per the census occupation.
