Hello Shawn. I tried to respond back to your message a day or two after you posted it, but for some reason Genforum would not post my reply. So here we go again.
First off have you talked to all the elderly family members in you family who might know, or have an old Family Bible with listings of those born and died. I'm assuming you have already done that. Ok next If you know what State, (and maybe county) in 1880 then go to your nearest library, (that has a genealogy dept), and get the census for that State, and try to find him on that census Then hopefully you can find him in the 1870 census and so on back to the 1850 census now before that they didn't list the names except the head of the household. So there you are just winging it. Now here is another way for you to go. I am a member of the "Spencer Historical & Genealogical Society" They have been of tremendous help to me. You might plug that name into you finder and contact them. Membership is not very high and they have a fantastic library of books you can get, that would be of great help. Jerry Spencer (the president) and his wife have been very helpful to me. You might check that out. Well good luck. Scott Spencer
