Lee,Please go to the upper right corner of the screenwhere this message is and find the box `jump to forum`, then fill it in with Oneida, NY.When choices come up select the proper one for location only. Go to date 8/03/03 which is on the second page and read Geo. W. Spencer enlisted in NY 117th infantry. If you don`t read them all there is a correction on Venice, which should read Vienna. Several of your questions may be answered there. David F. Spencer was born in E. Greenwich, RI. on June 1, 1804!!Happy 200 Grandpa (2xx). The story of his movement westis in Flora Clark`s work available from SHGS society in parts or the whole thing with all the brothers. My line is Michael whose son John was the first signature proprietor for the founding of E. Greenwich, RI. The family story is interesting and complicated by two sisters, twins of David`s father`s first wife Mercy Spencer Spencer who took in family children upon the death of Amos`s wives, hence children were trecking on to Stephentown NY. where Audra and Elinor (the twins) married two Carr brothers formerly from RI. Hence David was in Stephentown by the 1830 census living near brothers. By 1835 he was in Herkimer Co., NY also near relatives (state census) & he then purchased a farm in Fulton County, Ohio in 1845. The census of 1850, 60, 70, & 80 all have our family at Fayette Village in that Co. David is buried there with his wife Sarah (This starts a whole new story on the errors in Flora Clark`s genealogy, one that is not unexpected when the whole story is known but still a serious error.David`s will at that place lists David F.Spencer`s children in 1879 as William, John, Rensselaer H.(My Gr.Grandpa) b. 1840 at Herkimer NY., Sarah, Cordelia, Mary, and Enos. Names of spouses were Amsbaugh, Miller, Plopper, Ritchie, (Miller from Union Co., NJ.) This is barely a start on my information. Find if you can a 1951 Volume 27 and 28 of Donald Lines Jacobus `The American Genealogist` for a scholarly review of early Spencers (the brothers), See McPartland`s book on E. Greenwich if that line becomes relevant-she was a beloved librarian at that city`s library for years and the book is excellent. Flora Clark`s many volumes on the 4 Spencer Bros. is on the shelf at Salt Lake LDS Library, available from SHGS for nominal cost in sections, unbound, at least it was. If the NEHG records are available they might be helpful.(an understatement). I will go to the Oneida site and see if the online book is still available and let you know.My line is------Michael, John-establish E. Gr. RI., Rest of the family through David F. Spencer all RI., so then back to the line after John is Benjamin, then Walter who mar. Ann Wilson , next Wilson Spencer mar. Lydia Stone, Next Amos Spencer (the genealogy stories say cannon maker for the war of 1812, ran a mill, built chimneys, was a unique character if the stories are accurate). Next is David F. Spencer. I have a list of all the David Spencers in New York in 1830, a very labor intensive work at the time it was done from LDS microfische. It is not immediately handy but I will keep a watch out for it.Wendell
