Don't know if this will help much, but here's what I have:
John T. Spencer, b. May 18, 1826 in MS; d. May 23, 1863, Vicksburg, MS. This information came from the 1850 Census of Hinds Co., MS; 1860 Census of St. Helena Par., LA; and a calculation I made from a condolence letter sent by the Masonic Lodge in Jackson, MS, to John's widow, St. Helena (Strickland) Spencer, in which his age at death was listed as "37 years, __ months, 5 days."
John T.'s father was Evan Spencer, and his mother was Mary Thompson. I personally have no further information on these two; what I do have came from a copy of a sworn statement: "'Mr. J. H. Thompsons Father and Mother had two Sons Jesse and J. H. T. and Six Daughters.
Mary, married Evan Spencer, her son John T. was A Civil Engineer the service lost his life in Vicksburg...
Mrs. Johny Cotton of Summit is a Daughter of John T. Spencer and his wife Mrs. StHelena Strickland...
Margaret Ann Thompson.'
The foregoing is a true copy of the original papers and family records...--- Elizabeth Jones Parsons
Subscribed and sworn to before this fourth day of January 1938."
I show that John T. and St. Helena had 7 children the last one (John T. Jr.) possibly born around or after the time of John T. Sr.'s death. (Maybe he took some leave, right before the siege at Vicksburg?)The kids: Evan Wesley, b. 8/1851; William R., b. 10/1853; Cade, b. abt. 1856; Mary Jane, b. abt. 1858; Rebecca, b. 4/1860; Sarah, b. abt. 1862; and John T. (Jr.), b. abt. 1863/1864. All of these kids are on the 1870 Census of St. Helena Par., LA, living with St. Helena (Strickland) Spencer.
Any idea who provided the LDS the information you posted yesterday?
