John:Thank you so much for your reply. The Spencer connection I am looking for is much earlier. However, I have John (11) b.1699 d.1785 m. Abigail Lyford b. 1672 d. 1736, in my direct line from Richard (8) and Ursula Scott.
Seems we are cousins, through him.
The first time the Spencer name appears is prior to 1817. However, since the population was small, and there were few women, I speculate that the Spencer family was here prior to then and married a Kimball.
I have very few middle name records for earlier generations.
Trying to find the connection is just a side line search for me.My father is Spencer and it is just interesting to determine where the name came from.I know that it is usually a maiden name of some family member, that gets passed along, so as not to loose the family connections.
Thank you cousin nice to meet you.
