Charles Spenard was indeed a taylor. One of the first entries in the census that I've found is 1880. He was 18 and listed as "works for taylor". I believe that later in life he had his own shop. He was 1 of 9 children listed in 1880 of Joseph and Julia Spenard in Troy, NY. One of the other children was Edmond. Edmond's son, also Edmond, was my grandfather.
