He was born in Berrien County on December 17, 1934 to the late Eulie and Lillie (Ray) Spells. Mr. Spells served in the United States Navy. He also served in the Ready Reserve National Guard and worked in law enforcement as a Police Chief in Lanier County. He is preceded in death by his brother, William Spells.Survivors include wife June Ellen Spells, Ray City, Ga.; daughter and son in law, Teresa and Charles Staines, Ray City; sons and daughters in laws, Donald and Melanie Spells, Tallahassee, Fla.; Stephen and Jane Spells, Moultrie, Ga.; stepsons and daughters in law, Thomas and Kim King, Ray City; Michael and Kari Johnson, Thomasville, Ga.; step-daughter Melissa Johnson, Ray City; 18 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sisters, Edith Angle, Plano, Tex.; Vickie and Bob Lathrop, Asheboro, N.C.; Faye and Mark Berry, St. George, Ga. and Voleta Spells, Valdosta.Funeral services held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow in Friendship Cemetery.
