Arthur Hopton Spell born 1827 in Sampson Co., North Carolina was the son of Lewis Spell and Grace Rachel Crumpler.

Lewis was born abt 1795 in Sampson Co., NC and died abt 1845. He was the son of Lewis Spell and Moriah Faircloth.

Grace Rachel was born abt 1793 in NC and died sometimes after 1860. She was the daughter of Jacob Crumpler.

Arthur was listed as Abner in the 1860 census. Hopton and Elsie are buried at the Spell Cemetery west of Salemburg, NC. Three of their daughters married Faircloths.
