Col. Wm Speir, Pitt Co. NC, 1760

The book "Colonial Soldiers of the South, 1732-1774" by Murtie June Clark, has the records on militia appointments for NC.

William Speir shows up as a captain in a return for Beaufort Co. (undated but before Pitt split off.) Then in a return for Pitt County, after the split, he is listed as Lieut Colonel, and John Speir is a captain.

Many of the men associated with the Speirs in Pitt County appear on these muster roll lists.
