Capt. John Speir (or Spier or Spiers) married Patience Cotten in Bertie Co., N.C. She died in childbirth in 1725. One of Patience's sisters was a widow named Martha Benton and one source I have seen claims that Martha married John Speir after her sister died. Patience and Martha had another sister named Mary Holland who was probably related in some way to the John Holland you mentioned.
