I am a descendant of Robert Speights whose family is partially listed on the 1776 census, Sugar Land Hundred, Maryland. In a diary by his grandson (Samuel - born 1777), Robert is named and said to have been born in Yorkshire. Samuel married Mary Ellen Hoggins (son of John Hoggins and grandaughter of Peter Hoggins. They moved to Swinneytown (now North Middleton), Bourbon County, KY where my grandfather, Samuel, was born in 1815. The family then moved to Illinois. My grandfather, Samuel, then moved to Minnesota where he was a pioneer missionary among the Ojibway Indians from about 1839 to 1855. I would welcome any information which might help me find the Yorkshire roots of Robert Speights. Thank you.
