Hi Joanne ,
Congrats , you have just added another Isaac to the Durham Speight/Speights/Spikes.This makes six in total, four of whom are definitely related. They are quite a confusing bunch so just to clarify :-
a) Thomas Speight, b. 1774 in Lancaster.
had son , Isaac b.1819 at Low Mile ,Cumb.
Thomas (1774) had another son , William b.1796 at Low
Mile. William had a son Isaac ,b 1823 at St Bees,Cumb.
Just to confuse things even further , this Isaac also
had a son Isaac b 1871,in Co Durham (possibly in the
Washington area).
Thomas (1774) had another son Thomas ,b 1801 at Low
Mile Cumb. And you have guessed it ,he also had a son
Isaac , b 1823 at Whitehaven , Cumb.
In 1851 ,Thomas, son Isaac (and other sons) and his two
grandsons were living at Barmston or Washington .My
guess is that they came to Durham circa 1830/1850.
b) Another Isaac appeared on the scene -Isaac Speight who
was born 1846 in Batley ,Yorks (see Speights in
Sunderland for his family's history). On the basis of
the information I have ,I do not believe this Isaac to
be related to Thomas (1774). However he may be related
to a couple of the Speights in the Chester le Street
and Houghton le Spring areas .
c) Which brings us to Isaac Spike ,b 1816 in Maryport ,
Cumb. This one came out of the blue and I have no
information on him at all. However in all my records I
have not found any mention of a Spike (which does not
mean there isnt one). It is interesting that he comes
from the Maryport which isnt that far from
St,Bees and Whitehaven . Any further information on
this Isaac would be gratefully received .
Keep looking.
Regards Bob Speight
