Zilpha Speight was the daughter of old Thomas Speight Sr. and his wife Mary Hinton.
This is proven by will of Thomas Speight dated April 7, 1737, and he names his wife Mary, sons Isaac Speight and Moses Speight. Daughters Rachel, Ruth Jordan, Zilpha BLANCHARD. Isaac Speight was executor. Richard Pierce, Jeffrey Hubbard, and Thomas Rountree Sr. were witnesses.
Mary Speight died between 25 Feb 1740/1 and 7 May 1743 in BERTIE COUNTY, NC, and cites sons Moses Speight, Isaac Speight, daughters Rachel Jordan, Zilpha Blanchard, granddaughters Mary Speight, Elizabeth Speight, and another Mary Speight. Cousins Jacob Hinton, Reuban Hinton, William Hinton, Bettie Hinton, Mary Hinton, all children of Jacob Hinton Sr.
Isaac Speight and Joseph Perry were executors. Witnesses were Guy Hill, Moses Rountree, and Thomas Roundtree.
Zilpha apparently married first to John Walton. John's brotherTimothy married another sister of Zilpha but we do not know her first name. Timothy Walton's daughter Celia married a James Freeman.
Josiah Speight cites Josiah Freeman, son of William Freeman, as his "cousin" in his Chowan County will of 1786, in which he identifies Jeremiah Speight as his "brother".
