My grandmother was Veronica Speidel, she married Frank J. Huch on August 3, 1921 in Wheeling WV.
The oldest Speidel I have is Benedict who was born in Germany 1814 and died in Wheeling WV in 1875. He married Veronica Frank also from Germany. It is said that they had 10 children but I can only find 7:
Elizabeth,Emma,Louisa,Mary Ann, Nicholas, Sarah,Joseph Sr., John Louis, Benedict and Bernhardt. His son Benedict lived in Punxatawny, PA. My greatgrandfather John Louis lived in Wellsburg WV and then Wheeling WV. His Son Joseph Sr. had a Grocery Company in Wheeling and was very wealthly and well to do. They associated with the Ogelbay's who have a Park named after them and the Speidel's have a golf course. It is said that my great grandfather and his brother Joseph had a falling out and John Louis told him to put it where the sun doesn't shine which explains why we didn't inherit any of the wealth. In any case the children of Joseph Sr.went on to do other things and the grocery company has not been here in years and there are only a few Speidels left in Wheeling(you can count them on one hand).
