As Valesca wrote in her original post, we are looking for Nathaniel Spears b. c1798 NC, died c1856-57 Taylor Co, GA. This Nathaniel appeared in Talbot Co., GA in the 1840 census, then in Marion Co., GA in 1850, and Taylor Co., GA in 1860. His first wife was Jane (maiden name unknown; b. c1799), who he married around 1831. Their children were:
1. Marzilla Ann Spears - b. 1832, NC; d. 1881, Taylor Co., GA; m. Thomas J. Joiner.
2. Frances H. Spears - b. 1832, NC; d. 1904, Taylor Co., GA; m. John Wesley Cox (these are my ancestors).
3. Lucius M. "Mack" Spears - b. 1835; d. 1912, Van Zandt Co., TX; m. Mary Jane Barnes.
Follwoing Jane (--) Spear's death sometime between 1850 and 1860, Nathaniel married Margaret M. Gardner in 1866 in Taylor Co., GA. At this point, Nathaniel's parents are unknown.
I notice that in the 1840 census for Talbot Co., your Jemima and Pleasant Spears are listed side by side, while my Nathaniel Spears is listed in an entirely different district within the county. Is it possible that Nathaniel is a brother to your Pleasant? Where did your Spears family live prior to Talbot Co., GA?
Michelle
