John Spearing, Crewkerne, Somerset.

Hi, I'm trying to locate the origin of an ancestor of mine, John Spereinge (sic) married in Crewkerne, Somerset on 27th June, 1639 to a Mary Mills or Wills. They had three children, John (1640), Richard, Anne.
I have been unable to find trace of any Spearing's in Crewkerne prior to John's recorded marriage, and am looking for clues as to his origins.
I have also come across (can't remember where now!) info' that suggested that the Spearing name was originally "Spiering" and was brought to the UK by five (I think) German brothers. Does anyone know anything of this? Regards, George Spearing.
