I have an Alexander Speirs b. Edinburgh 1714, son of John which leads back to the Renfrewshire Spiers. This Alexander immigrated to Virginia in 1740. HE had a son, Alexander b. 1759 supposed by researchers to have died, but in fact immigrated to America at the age of 19 to North Carolina. Also, while too lenghty to put here, according to what I'm reading now, the Spears,(and all their asst. spellings) originated in Scotland as far back as the 14th century, then migrated to Ireland, county Antrim. Then some went on to England, while others stayed in Scotland. Yours may be of the Scot branch. Let me know if I can help
