I have a group family sheet compiled by Larry Williams Vehorn indicating that as of the 1860 census, William was living in Warren Township, Marion Co, IA. However, I have a copy of the Treasury Dept payment he received for his son's back pay and a horse after the son (it looks like C.C. Spaw?) was killed in 1864. The date of the payment was Aug 2, 1869, and William signed as Wm. J. Spaw, Elmwood (?), MO.

By the way, does anyone have any really good idea how the Spaws got to KY? I saw a reference that Esther (?) Spaw (I assume Jacob's mother) was sent from England on a prison ship prior to the Revolution, and, I assume landed in Virginia or Maryland.

Regards,
Ray
