Has anyone done research on the Sparrow family's relation ship to Abraham Lincoln? According to an article in the" New England Ancestors" (Winter 2003) on Abrahams Lincoln's maternal Ancestry.Dennis Hanks a known Hanks family descendent claimed that Lincoln's mother was not a Hank's, but a Sparrow, legitimate daughter of Henry Sparrow,and Lucy Hanks(that would still make her a Hanks), his mother's sister. Dennis Hanks had said " If you call her a Hanks you make hir sic a Base born child which is not trew. " According to the article, Nancy Hanks(Sparrow?) had three children by Thomas Lincoln: Sarah in 1807, Abraham in 1809, and Thomas, Jr. in 1812 (the last would die young). The family moved to Spencer County, Indiana with the family of Thomas and Elizabeth(Hanks)Sparrow and their semi-adopted nephew, Dennis Friend Hanks. Thomas and Elizabeth Sparrow also died that year, leaving Dennis Hanks their heir. Dennis Hanks was the nearest cousin of Abraham Lincoln that the President knew, who was still alive. Dennis married Lincoln's stepsister, Sarah Elizabeth Johnston , daughter of Thomas Lincoln's 2nd wife, Sarah Bush, by her first husband, David Johnston. Does anyone know if this Sparrow line is related?
