Alexander Sparling ~born ~ Lawrence County, Ohio
Alexander Sparling was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, April 12, 1829, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. B.A. Helmick, in LeRoy, Iowa, August 30, 1907, aged 78 years, 4 months and 18 days. He was the oldest son of Henry and Anna Sparling. He moved with his parents to Iowa in 1850, where he resided two years, then, like many other young men, followed the tide of emigration west and settled in Oregon near Portland. He united with the Baptist Church and was baptized September 14, 1879, at East Portland, Oregon. When he moved to Oakesdale, Washington, he united with the Christian Church. He moved back to Iowa in 1901 and united with the M.E. Church in LeRoy. He was a faithful church worker wherever he was.
He leaves one brother and one sister to mourn his loss, his father and mother and three brothers, and two sisters having preceded him to the better land. His funeral service was preached Saturday at 1 o'clock in the Methodist Church, by Reverend Goodsell, after which the remains were interred in the Winter's Cemetery.
