I would say it is very possible that William Luton is a son of John Luton and a previous wife.I see that James Kelly and Matilda were married in Webster, Missouri. I looked at a Missouri counties map and Webster Co is right beside Wright County and Douglas county butts up to both of them to the south.
I think Luton must have been spelled another way because I cannot find John Luton with a variation of spellings in the census. I have tried Lewton, Looten, Lootin, etc. and used a soundex.
