Was it common to bring a camera along?
My great grandfather fought in the Caribbean during the Spanish American War. We have a whole photo album of small sepia-colored photos that I presume he took. His handwriting is scrawled under each photo. There are photos of ships, churches, and men doing various things such as carrying ammunition boxes on dirt roads in Puerto Rico. All of the photos were taken between May 1898 and September 1899.
My question is, does anyone know how common it was for a soldier to bring a camera with him? They didn't exactly fit in your pocket back then...
Does anyone have any information at all about this? or could you point me in the right direction?
Thanks for reading. I'd love to hear from you!
Carey
