Hello,

For Spanish American War Graves the Tr.C. means "Troop C," so in this case the soldier was a member of Troop C, 4th United States Cavalry Regiment.

The designations of the various companies levels would have been as follows in 1898 whereas before that they were normally just all refered to as "Company."

Infantry - Company
Artillery - Battery
Cavalry - Troop

The designation of a Transport Company would not have come about in the U.S. Military until sometime after 1908.

- Kenneth H. Robison II,
Sons of Spanish American War Veterans.
