David Henry Crews, born 15 Nov 1873 in Crawford Co., Indiana, died 3 April 1912 in Stafford Co., Kansas, served
with Teddy Roosevelt in Cuba and in The Philappines, and was discharged in New York. He married on 30 Dec 1902 in
Crawford Co., Indiana, Samantha Elsie Enlow, and they had
one child, Ruth Elizabeth Crews, born on 11 November 1905
in Crawford County. The family moved to Kansas in 1910 and
after David died in a hunting accident, Samantha applied for her widow's Pension which she received and was able to
raise their daughter who later became a Registered Pharmacist from the Univ. of Kansas at Lawrence. David was
never well after he served in the military. My brother has
his uniform which is dark blue wool and he wore a brown
hat as part of his uniform. He carried a rifle with a
bayonnet. He was the eldest son of Sheriff, Jeremiah Richard Crews, and wife, Sarah Elizabeth Goldman, of Crawford Co., Indiana. David was also a Freemason, and
my Grandfather.
