Try thus website: www.spanamwar.com
Check the State and/or County Historical or genealogical society he enlisted from to see if he is on a Memorial or list of those who served. Some states call it a "Muster In and Muster Out" Record.
Check local papers where he lived as he might have been interviewed or memtioned in articles printed around Veterans Day (November 11th).
