SP AM War is the Spanish American War.
Co is for Company
Dis the name of the Company
2 is for 2nd
V is for Virginia
N is for what I think would be National (Guard)
INF is for Infantry
So I read it as saying he served in Company D of the 2nd Virgina National (Guard) Infantry during the Spanish American War.
Not all saw action overseas as the war was so short.
