Robert Emmett Davidson -- question and help needed
Can anyone add anything to the following information about Major Robert Emmett Davidson who was in the Spanish-American war?Is there a place I can find the name of his parents?
Robert E. Davidson was Captain of Company A, 1st Florida Regiment, Volunteer Infantry. This unit was organized at Ocala, Florida on 24 May 1884 under the name of Ocala Rifles; it was afterward known as Company A, 2nd Battalion, Florida State Troops. When the United States called for troops to serve in the Spanish-American War this company was accepted by the Governor for service in the United States Volunteers. On 25 April 1898 they left Ocala by rail for Tampa, Florida; arrived there the same day and went into camp at Fort Brooke, at which place the company was mustered in 20 May 1898.Broke camp 27 May 1898 and marched to Camp DeSoto, Tampa, Florida, where it went into camp.On 30 June 1898, broke camp and marched to Tampa Heights, going on duty with the United States Seige Artillery, commanded by Major Wills. On this same day, Davidson was promoted to the rank of Major and transferred to the Staff of the 1st Florida Infantry. The 1st Florida Infantry was transferred to Fernandina, Florida during the last week of July 1898.They were sent to Huntsville, Alabama at the end of August and then on to Tallahassee, Florida by 11 October 1898.The unit was finally mustered out on 27 January 1899 at Tallahassee.
