Possibility???
HI, I have been searching for any info my gg grandfather. He died on Sept 10, 1898 at the age of 29. Nobody in my family really remembers alot about him. It took me forever to find his name and then locate his grave. Anyway, I was wondering if there might be a chance he died in the Spanish/American war? I have read that there was a unit that started in Alabama and shipped out in April 1898. They returned in late September 1898 with very few of their men alive. Most had died of disease. The dates would be right but I know it's a long shot. Was 29 to old to be in the war at that time? If he had died while over seas would they have brought his body back home? Is there anyway to find out if he served in this war? His name was William E Lovell (most of his records have been under W. E. Lovell) from Alabama. His dates are 10/06/1969 – 09/10/1898. One of the reasons I thought this might be a possibility is on the top of his tombstone there is anchors and stars. Maybe a sign of the navy?? I know I'm grabbing at straws here but any help would be appreciated!!
